What makes us different
The programming & philosophy of Oliver
Centre makes us different from most childcare centres. In 2007
Oliver Centre management had an opportunity to go to Italy to
observe a world renowned program for preschool children. Upon
returning, the staffs at Oliver Centre were introduced to the
Reggio Emilia Philosophy.
Understanding that Oliver Centre could not adopt
the ways of Italy while living in North America the Teachers had
decided to begin a Reggio Emilia Inspired program. Through this
philosophy children are able to plan and programming should be
discussed and decided with the children. Each day morning circle
consists of conversation about what the day will look like.
Children's interests are what guide the Teacher's thoughts and
work regarding their planning.
Oliver Centre's approach is to allow the
children the autonomy to make decisions and research their
learning. All of the child's daily activities are documented and
posted for parents, teachers, and children to revisit and gather a
better understanding of their learning. Many parents come into
their child's classrooms to introduce new ideas or provide
expertise on a project the children may be working on. The
classroom environments are all natural and calming work spaces.
